Massimo ✔ Follow • • • @Rainmaker1973 Josie, the legendary lioness from Addo Elephant National Park in South Afric, who defied the typical "d_th sentence" of blindness for predators, surviving for roughly five years without sight.
  • 03
Her two daughters, Dawn and Duffy, acted as her "eyes". They guided her through the bush with soft contact calls, protected her from scavengers, and ensured she fed first after hunts.

Even more striking, she lived to approximately 17 years old, significantly exceeding the average wild lion lifespan of 14-15 years.

Crystal_Mt_Climber We have a 3 legged female cougar in our area and her offspring don't leave her. She had 3, but 2 stay with her. The game warden said it's common if there is an injured cat the cubs will stay longer than normal to help hunt.

-You-know-it- This happens in the human species too. The sons would immediately abandon. If you work in healthcare, then you know exactly what I mean....

Ok-Woodpecker-8226 a little clarification: when a female cub grows up, they stay in the pride and hunt for the pride. when a male cub comes of age, they are kicked out to find their own pride to fight for and win. male lions di all the time from injury or failure of hunts. this is why male lions can also have other males in their 'squad' to 3v1 a male who controls the pride.

lionesses hunt, the dudes patrol the territory and fight. cubs are usually k led by a new, winning male, and lionesses will try to hide their babies. they can also keep themselves from getting pregnant from the new male until he proves he can protect the pride

Main-Rice2319 Female lions often never leave their mom. It's the males who leave.

itsnobigthing I feel like a lot of us grew up being told cats are always solitary creatures, but in fact feral females often form colonies like this with other related females, sharing kitten rearing and even k ls.

They chase the boys out, except for during mating season, so the male cats do live more solitary lives. Typical erasure of the female experience

Watch_Earthlings_Doc Yes, this actually happened. A legendary wild lioness named Josie at Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa lived to about 18 years old, surviving roughly five years. completely blind because her two daughters, Dawn and Duffy, stayed by her side, guided her, shared kils, and protected her.
